Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc Inroduces Gemcoat™ Multicoating System

THE SPECTACLE LENS GROUP OF JOHNSON & JOHNSON VISION CARE, INC
INTRODUCES THE GEMCOAT™ MULTICOATING SYSTEM

ROANOKE, Va. (May 29, 2003) – The Spectacle Lens Group of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc. has made it easier for presbyopes to protect their eyes from vision-impairing reflective glare and protect their progressive lenses from scratches that can reduce visual acuity.

Available exclusively with DEFINITY™ Lenses, The Spectacle Lens Group’s GEMCOAT™ Multicoating System is a premium anti-reflective and scratch-resistant coating technology that reduces reflection to approximately 1 percent per surface.

“Our new GEMCOAT™ system, designed specifically for DEFINITY™ Lenses, offers presbyopic patients the best combination of progressive lens optics and glare reduction,” said John Hogan, president, The Spectacle Lens Group. “GEMCOAT™ is optimized to complement the full range of DEFINITY™ Lenses available – CR-39®, polycarbonate and Transitions® Lenses 1.50 Gray, and, in the near future, High Index 1.60, providing the best possible performance for every DEFINITY™ Lenses wearer.”

GEMCOAT™ is a combination of nine anti-reflective layers per lens side. The patented GEMCOAT™ Multicoating System uses its anti-reflective layers to enhance scratch resistance by incorporating three quartz-like layers into the AR design. The outermost layer is a high performance hydrophobic coating that makes the lenses easy to clean. GEMCOAT™ is guaranteed for the lifetime of the prescription.*

“GEMCOAT™ is integral to helping my presbyopic patients reach their full vision potential,” said David L. Armstrong, OD, Roanoke, Va. “It enables crisper vision, especially while driving at night. It is also critical in helping reduce the eye fatigue patients may experience when using the computer.”
