Rodenstock Cosmolit with AR. IMHO Al.
Barry,
SV ? Bi-focal or what? If it is SV then you can use the AO Permalite (12.50) or the AOLite :) .. or you can use Rodenstock Cosmolit as mentioned.. or in regular CR39 you can go "way up" there in base curves and not go over to a lenticular design..12 or 14 base..

Matthew,
That would really be pushing the Optima 1.66 to the limit..if it is a +12 on the button, which when an optician usually tells me "oh +12", means it could be a 12.50 or anything around that :) or if God forbid they forget to tell me it's a plus cylinder RX ..which happens often when they call me to see if it can be done :) ...BUT never the less, a +12 sph. on the Optima would be a perfectly plano back side cut...but it would look pretty good considering.. the main problem is you want to make sure you better have ZERO decentration on the frame choice because the blank in a 1.66 from optima does not have much thickness to work with a CT of around 12 mm and an edge th. of around 8 mm and it's onlt a 70 mm blank and you're going to be sweeping a plano cut on a 10.25 base lens (TC 9.05)..if say it was a 48/20 eye with PD on center then the CT would be around 7.9 mm thick.. not bad for a +12 :)
Oh Barry one other thing.. if you want the very best job possible you should send the frame along with this job..sure would make life alot easier on the lab guys and make sure you get the very best results.. that or a really good diagram :)

I thoght Welsh 4 drop lens is discontinued?
What is the closest lens in ft22?
Is signet armolite Hyperaspheric the best choice?
I'd go with a Bristolite 5 drop myself, available in S.V. FT-28, or Round 25. But I'd sure go for the Round, with all that plus, makes a smoother looking job too. Swing the segs WAY in, about 6 EACH to offset prism B.O. in segs.

Just this morning, I remembered this posting when I edged and fitted a pair of S/V Hoya 1.71 lenses, +11.00/-1.75 to a Rem metal frame 50-18
The Pts PD was excellent, 68mm and this was one of the best dispensed pair of lenses I've seen for ages.
The lenses were 60mm dia. and the CT turned out as 5.8mm, the lab did a great job (thanks Karen!)
I went through my stock of finished S/V CR39 lenses and found a comparable thickness in a lens +4.75/-1.75
We've done quite a few high minus jobs in this 1.71 material, but this is the first 'plus'..... certainly not the last.
Have y'all a great w/end
Clive
