Not too sure about the cylinder powers (-9.00 DC for 1.74!) for the Shamir product though.

Robert, thanks for this great resource. I'm sure it will be of help to me. One thing catching my eye was the high cylinder available from Shamir that goes all the way out to 8. I've yet to see a patient that requires such a cylinder, but if they come along at least I'll know. I guess that would only be for a conical cornea. Is the number of patients needing that high of a cylinder so small that the other manufacturers don't make anything over 6? Or is it very difficult to fabricate a cylinder over 6 and Shamir is the only company with the know how? I think free form is the best choice for anyone with a cylinder over 2, and am surprised so many of these manufacturers only go out to 4.

That chart is awesome. I got a poster like version out of a 20/20 magazine recently and I hung it on my lab door...Good stuff! :)
The chart is accurate as far as the power availability, including cylinder range for the Shamir lenses.
HOWEVER, there is a difference between what Shamir's software will calculate curves for, and what some generators will actually cut.
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.
