My first time on OptiBoard as a member! I am preparing to take my state boards in a couple months and would appreciate any study guide suggestions or specific areas I should concentrate on.

I'm not familiar with the specifics of SC but most state board exams consist of the following:
1. neutralization of Rx's and some will definitely have prism (must be withing ANSI standards tolerances)
2. frame measurements (A, B, DBL, etc.)
3. lens types (SV, FT 28, FT 8X35, Executive, Round Segs, Progressives)
4. measure seg heights, center and edge thickness (calipers)
5. measure base curves (lens clock)
6. distance and near PD's (monocular and binocular)
7. some have a section on the laws as they pertain to that state
I recommend taking a board review course if it's offered. It helped me a lot. Good luck!

It was designed for the ABO but it's also free so an additional resource for you if you need it and it comes with questions and answers to help you test your skills a bit as well. Good luck and that Wes guy seems to be sharp as a razor so I would take him up on the study time if he's offering.

I'm no Harry or Darryl, but I'll do in a pinch. Maybe more like a razor that's been used all week.

So how did you do on your boards? I think I did well. Still waiting for results though. The waiting is killing me

I think it went well- but you are right- the WAIT is killing me!! Should be soon, I hope!
Just called the SC Board today- they have STILL not received our scores- she said they checked on it and should have them next week. She assured me they mail out the result letters as soon as they receive the scores! Good Luck!
Thats what they told me and, still waiting. It's killing me!!!

Yes, got the break down. My biggest issue is the next exam date is the same time my wife is due!

Sorry you failed. I really feel for you. I had to take my GA board on the day my son was due. Not a very comfortable experience (had a hard time reaching the lensometer and my son picked that day to sit on my kidneys) What are you going to do?

Got results yesterday- missed the 3rd section by one pt!! How weird is that?!?! I did well on the 1st and 2nd section. Which section did you miss by one pt? I am also very upset because I felt very confident leaving the exam. Good luck in Dec!
Was that the section with the semifinished uncuts that you have to give curves and nominal powers for using a clock? Seems that's the section that gives the most trouble to the non surface lab types. If you two need any help for next time, let me know.
