Which frame color looks best with graying hair color (salt & pepper) - Gold or Silver ?
silver, or gunmetal usually, depends on the person obviously
weird question
Black
Men actually ask this question quite often. They aren't sure what to do when they have been wearing gold or brown frames yet the hair is no longer brown. Silver or gunmetal tones usually look fine. Black is excellent if they have the right skin tone but a dark tortoise is nice also. Don't overlook rimless, semi-rimless and frames in deep blue tones either.
I like a darker gunmetal color, but I usually don't advocate a true silver or lighter metal color on those going grey. It has a tendency to bring out the silver in the hair.. and thus ages them, where as a darker color brings out the darker tones in the hair and provides a more youthful appearance.

clear zyl!!!
I agree. Lots of people seem to think that graying hair looks best with silver or gunmetal frames but I disagree. Many times I barely notice the gray in the hair until the person puts on a gray/silver toned frame. Silver and lighter gunmetals really bring out the white hairs in graying hair.
I think it is important to look at what is becoming with the skin tone. Brown tones often look much better. Depending on the skin I also like blacks or very dark grays. I don't think it is a weird question at all.
One should not overlook other factors, eyes, skin, and other features also have color. This should influnce what the patient should have as much as hair color. Not to mention some females don't have the same hair color from week to week. Usually skin and eyes remain the same.
Perhaps most important is what the patient desires.

Oh I thought we were talking about men specifically. In my experience the woman with the just right salt and pepper hair is rare. She usually looks right in jewel tones and black. Most women don't get that lucky so we dye it. The majority of women I see with graying hair (other than the very old) just don't care much what they look like anyway so anything goes.
Sounds like an opportunity for multiple frame sales.
I prefer to put my male pt's in silver/gunmetal or black with gray hair .... for women, the color choice is much expanded. I think a plastic frame in black or jewel tone (especially muted reds) is the best choice... if she prefers a wire frame, gold, dark copper or maybe a semi-rimless gunmetal (nothing SHINY silver or gold)
Silver will look nice with greying color.
It will surely make a good combination.
Navy blue!
There is no one grey hair color. It depends on the patient.
