FDA OKS NEW USE OF INTRALASE LASER

IntraLase Corp., a maker of lasers used in LASIK eye surgery, on Wednesday said the Food and Drug Administration has cleared its "FS30 femtosecond" laser for use in corneal transplants. IntraLase said the FDA cleared the FS laser for making the deep corneal incisions and full-thickness resections required for corneal transplants in procedures called lamellar or penetrating keratoplasty. IntraLase first marketed the FS laser in 2001 as a tool to create corneal flaps.
