OK, so I'm playing with a Kaenon sunglass today and I'm wondering; "What ar these things made from?"
I know the ad-slick says its propritary but Oakley says that too and we all know they're mad from poly.

All I can tell you is SR-91
Refractive index = 1.56
Abbe value = 40
Specific Gravity = 1.15
Basically Trivex.

I was told it's a slightly reformulated Trivex. The standard 1.56 is nowhere near as flexible as the SR-91.And not as impact resistant.

I've n-e-v-e-r seen any trivex lens that could flex and bend like these do. Dragon, did you get that info from a rep? If so, I need to talk to ours again. :) Put in a call to the Kaenon guys - or if they're at a trade show or booth near you, stop by their booth. From what I remember talking with them a year and a half ago or so at VEW, they loved to talk tech.

Maybe to be sure we could send some to Uilleann and watch them turn yellow.:)
Found this here:

More info than Kaenon's site has.
And I was confusing them with NXT lenses.Sorry!:hammer:
However, with the introduction of polarized Trivex, Kaenon can no longer state:
"SR-91 is the lightest weight polarized lens ever invented and the very first non-compromising lens material brought to market. " as it is marginally heavier than Trivex.

I was talking to someone from 3 Rivers Optical (Pittsburgh) at VEE, who told me they would be carrying a material similar to Trivex with a refractive index of 1.56 and which is easier to edge. I was also told it is already being sold in Europe.
Luzerne's processing Kaenon lenses now.
Judy..................Then you should know what it is, and you said it.
Kaenons website had a 100% increase in their traffic to their site over the last 5 month. Something must draw the interest.
Trivex is a material that can only be used if you are paying the license fees to PPG who own the patents and so far I only know of only 2 manufacturers having a license, Younger and Hoya.
X-Cel, Augen are among others that use Trivex.

There is also a material call "HIVEX" which is 1.56 index and sold by Conant Optical has properties like Trivex ie: impact resistance and is very soft so you can bend it easly. Trivex refractive index is lower around 1.53 or so.
