My new frame warmer is a glorified Vidal Sassoon Sassy Curls 100.
What do the big boys and girls use to heat up the chunky black plastic?

I have a Hilco compact frame blower and also a standard salt box. I use them both...mostly because I have them both. The salt box is nice for just a little temple tip quickie adjustment...or as a tea warmer ; )
Hilco Compact that is older than my youngest employee I think
Real opticians use a alcohol lamp
Salt pan. Have never found a reason to change to a blower. Anyone want to try and convince me why a blower is better?
Heat gun! Stole it from my contractor...
Direct heat to the part of the frame that needs it and not to the whole thing? Faster? No chance of marking up the frame with lots of little salt pebble marks?
Those are my reasons. As long as your fingertips are calloused like mine so the heat won't hurt you I don't see any advantage to a salt pan these days. However - when it comes to tools - all that matters is that you gitterdun, use what you like! I have no doubt that rbaker could do a masterful adjustment with an alcohol lamp lol
Dick is not so far off.
I actually learned to heat frames above a gas bunsen burner and the frames were made from celluloid. If they started to burn you had to be fast and blow out the flame right away, then sand and re polish the area that was in a flame.
