Do we need a hall of shame for the filthiest specs we are asked to refit with new lenses?
This has to be a contender!
How can people put these on their face?

BEAUTY!!!
Geez I wonder why my lunch just came back out...
"I just bought these from you last year!" :bbg:
Did you take a good whiff of those? They belong to a 3 pack a day smoker!
Better you than me!
Can you say rubber gloves!
Just by touching those you probably have increased your risk for emphysema 200%.
We had a pair the other day which actually stank so bad we had to throw the case they arrived in straight in the outside bin.
And they were for a vicar!
I thought cleanliness was supposed to be next to godliness.
Never mind the rubber gloves, HAZ-MAT UNIT!!!!
:D

At least you can see the nose pad arms.

NOOOOOO, this person is highly myopic and NEEEEEDS spares, not using old frame.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.
As bad as that looks, i have actually seen a whole lot worse, where the nose pads had so much cheese on them you could not even see the pad arm, no less get to the screw.
.....One of the worse ones i ever had was in gainesville ,georgia, where this lady came in out of the north georgia mountains. Had a pair of glasses that the screws had fell out of temple hinges. She finally decided it was time to get them replaced. All i could see was what looked like two little cocoons, wrapped around the hinges and it was hard as heck. Struggling to try and get it off so i cut put a screw in there , i asked her what that was, and she replied it was beeswax, thread and something else she had mixed in. I finally had to saw it off with a small flat saw. I suggested to her next time to leave it as it sure wasn,t going anywhere.
Back in the late 80s, I was working with Dave Buntin and Marlyn Dallmann at McCamish Opticians(all excellent Masters--I was "the kid" at 31!!) in San Francisco at the now-defunct French Hospital. Dave was pushin 80 and rather cantankerous. A myope came in with enough filth on his frame to plant flowers. The B&L posts were nearly obscured.
Dave put in his teeth and hobbled out to see this mess and said: "Pilgrim, you take these home and wash them in hot water and dish detergent. Bring them back in and if I can tell they're glasses, I'll work on them." I thought poor Jack(not much Dave's junior)would have a heart attack laughing. For the record, Dave would never had run off one of the old aphakes in that way.
I have a great job, now; but those years, working with those old troupers, are the reason I have such a sweet business card, today...
I do a lot of Gift of Sight recycling in our LensCrafters (we recycle about 200-300 a month ...) anyway ... it's always an adventure to sort thru the glasses (between the "fashion faux pas", the truly "cool" glasses, the "walk down memory lane", and the truly "disgusting". I am amazed at the lack of hygiene of some people.
I have a sick morbid curiosity to check out "frame cheese" and various nosepads under a microscope just to see "what lies beneath" ...

you mentioned that....
"For the record, Dave would never had run off one of the old aphakes in that way"
The aphakes have a valid excuse ... the other people ... well, they are just disgusting or clueless! ((shudder))

The old timers used to tell me "they can't see them with them off, so they don't know how dirty they are". Now I am an old timer. I think that may be true in some cases, but the one on top of this thread should be able to see real good close up without his glasses.
Time was: The Lion's Club 'box' was a real archive. I had some real crises of conscience when it came to sending that older jewelry to rot in the jungle.
Now: It's an embarrassment. A lot of the eyeglases we've made in the last 10-20 years have not been the best representation of our trade as a craft.
I hope you're gloved and masked, Ms. GOS(I was a GOS'captain'when I was with Lensburgers). And don't be shy with the Iso...
