Can a transition mid index st-28 be put in a safilo drill mount frame safely?

Although any material may safely be mounted in a drill mount frame- given proper processing- mid-index materials are generally pretty low on the recommended list for these applications.

Of course, since polycarbonate isn't currently available in segmented bifocals with Transitions, this leaves you with either mid-index or a 1.50 material. I would almost be tempted to recommend the 1.50 material in this case.

Either way, however, the keys to a successful drill mount will remain the same- proper hole size and positioning, accurate mounting hardware, and chamfering of the holes and/or notches.

Anyway, the answer is yes- mid-index Transitions can safely be mounted in drill mount frames...

I know this is old, but I'm coming across the same situation and I'm kind of stuck on what I want to do. I need a ft with transition in a drill mount. But isn't there a 1.66 now?

Mid indexes are the WORST choice to put in a drill mount frame. Well, maybe glass is worse, I am not sure. I would recommend standard plastic over mid index. If 1.66 is available, use that instead.

I think there it, but honestly, I'm not positive. I don't want to used plastic at all, I'd rather talk her out of something else before I do that. Ok....so does anyone know if there is a 1.66?

Ok, so there is one...hmmm. one of the labs I use told me there wasn't. Maybe it's because they can't get it, not sure.

You mean you won't use plastic right? I woudn't either and someone suggested the new round seg from 3 rivers, but I don't want to use poly either. Not sure what to do if ther's not a 1.66

But this other stuff is just old Web garbage that's still cached in Google -- that's an Internet service provider and an Email address that I no longer use.

That is also an interesting point that could be brought up on a new thread, how to get rid of such garbage that might follow you forever.

Ahh yes! You are correct, sir!

As a note we have processes approx. 20 VisionEase D-28 Trans. lenses... they seem to work fine. I tested their fade back time and found them to be very close to current Transitions branded product. I had heard rumors of Transitions Trivex D-28. Although, I wouldn't hold my breath.
