    Ansi Z87.1-2003

Some of our AOSafety glasses have been coming in with warning labels to be removed by the consumer only. The labels mention the new ANSI Z87.1-2003 high velociy standard. Do any of you folks know what particular wearers the high mass and high velocity standards are supposed to apply to or is this just a way of grading safety lenses and frames? I noticed the high velocity rating is tested at a 2.0 CT.

The new standard, which I believe went into effect last August, allows lens materials with high impact resistance to have a minimum thickness of 2.0 mm vs 3.0 for basic impact resistance. The only materials I know of that are approved as "high impact" are polycarb and Trivex. Also, these lenses must be mounted in a frame that meets the new standard in order to be 2.0 mm, otherwise they must follow the old standard. All Basic Impact safeties have to include the warning sticker which is to be removed by the customer.
