Gerber Coburn Adds Advanced Finish Blocking Device to Lens Inspection Product Line

SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. – Gerber Coburn has added the Dimetrix Lens Inspection & Finish Blocker to its growing line of lens inspection devices. Co-developed with Visionix, Ltd. Jerusalem, Dimetrix supports the streamlining of lens processing by combining automatic finish blocking and lens power inspection into one device.

Dimetrix is an integrated tool, indicated Marc Okrant, product manager, Gerber Coburn. "It uses two advanced technologies – Wavefront powerMAPÒ Technology for lens power analysis and image recognition for extremely precise lens blocking," noted Okrant. "When incorporated into the lens finishing process, Dimetrix dramatically decreases manual lens inspection and blocking cycle times while at the same time reducing rework costs and the dependence on skilled labor."

"One of Dimetrix’s key features is its ease of operation," he stated. "Dimetrix automatically inspects and blocks single vision, multi-focal, progressive, and coated lenses, reducing the need for lens marking while improving accuracy and ensuring consistency. Once lenses are loaded and ready for inspection, Dimetrix analyzes the lens, compares it against ANSI or user-defined standards, and provides a Pass/Fail analysis."

According to Okrant, after the lens is analyzed, the integrated blocking device automatically orients the chuck to the appropriate cylinder axis and decentration, then applies the block, eliminating standard manual operations. He went on to explain, "Dimetrix is completely compatible with host software systems and is OMA compliant, making integration into the lab’s operations seamless. The unit is very easy to use. Lab technicians with little-to-no optical knowledge or experience can understand and operate Dimetrix."
