    Ultra-Sonic Screwing

They say that most amazing discoveries happen by chance, so listen to this one.

We bought our Dawe ultrasonic cleaner in 1974 We have used it about 10 times a day, every working day since and it's served us very well throughout the last 30 years apart from one small problem, screws in frames always seem to loosen up and have to be tightened when the frame is taken out after cleaning.

To celebrate the cleaner's birthday, we bought him a new plug and main cable, the old one being totally dangerous, and our technician fitted it.

After this, we noticed something very strange, screws didn't need to be tightened any more in frames, in fact the reverse, after a cleaning treatment, the screws appeared to be in place even stronger and in some instances couldn't be removed. there were even some lens breakages from this tightening process, something that had never happened before

To keep this brief, we finally discovered the problem, when our technician had fitted the new plug, he had fitted a 2-pin plug, rather than the 3-pin that was originally fitted, and depending on which way we attach the plug to the mains outlet, changes the polarity of the AC mains and this obviously was the cause of the problem. On switching the plug round the other way, the cleaner returned to cleaning and loosening as before, however there were so many cases when the tightening process was useful, that we have now marked the plug showing which way it has to go for screwing and unscrewing.

Just remember Mr Dawes, you read it here first......
And, why didn't you make this a selling point for this cleaner?

    Now, that is interesting....

(if someone could just come up with a "self-cleaning" ultrasonic ... like a "self-cleaning" oven...I hate the slimey buildup!)

Clive, ac has no polarity, seems like your maybe changing the ground circuit, or possibly the phase, i know some foreign countries use different types of elec then what we use here

HC - you love your trivex!

Clive, that is a neat trick. Could you show us another trick - an ultrasonic cleaner for your ultrasonic cleaner!

    Hi guys,

Of course the 3-piece mount was Phoenix..... Is there any other material???

I once did clean the body of the US Cleaner, but water must have got into the works because it didn't work for a week, that was 15 years ago, since then it's just a dry wipe down before Passover.

Happy April 1st to you all

Any 3-phase AC should exhibit similar results. Wire it wrong (or in Clive's case, turn the plug over) and motors run in the opposite direction.
