Lenny I use Continuum or Shamir Desk Top but I believe they all work the same way. Just give the lab the near correction and they will apply the appropriate dynamic power.I believe Access has only one dynamic power. Desk Top has three.

Access by SOLA has 2 power changes,.75 or 1.25, the selection is based on the add power for the lens. You at least need the add to determine which change to use. Most labs will calculate the rest of the RX for you. When the Access is ordered I usually order it like a bifocal, tell them you want Access and the Lab does the rest for you. Remember the Intermediate RX will always be either .75 less then the Near or 1.25 less than the near based on the add power.

    Lenny:

Being a teacher, I like to be sure we are using terms correctly and uniformly.

Thransposition is the process of changing the RX to the opposite cylinder sign form.

In other words, you get an Rx from an MD and you need to pick out stock lenses which are only listed in minus cylinder. You Transpose the Rx to find out what lenses you need. Also, some laboratory software requires everthing to be in minus cylinder so the computer transposes the Rx (including the cylinder axis) in order to process in their system.

Personally, I tell the lab what I want and not the other way around. This too comes from my teaching i guess. I want to know what is going on and what power I want the patient to be looking through at various distances.

It is importat also to realize that the powers can be altered by the fit of the frame and/or the vertical position of the lenses in the frame.

Now wonder the labs shake their heads at the level of understanding among opticians.

Homer - for opticians knowing what they are doing.
