    Toilet Paper

Hmm, "How's it hanging?" sorta takes on a whole new meaning...

Back a few years ago, I was trying to think up some sort of pithy saying that could become famous (you know, one of those like half empty half full). One of the best I came up with was-
Time is like toilet paper- you waste it till there's not much left

The only other one that seemed to have merit was a rendition of the empty glass-
Half empty or half full- sorta depends on what you're drinking, doesn't it?

    Over the top.......

but thats not the way I voted!....When in need...etc. I am withholding further posts until I see Optiboard's answer to Martha Stewart make a post! :D

Pete, I think you will get more action in this thread if you edit the title to " The great TP controversy" or something to that effect. We don't want to scare any of our ediquettitians from participating.

OK Pete, these polls are scaring me. Is this a sign of the state of the optical industry? I know for me things seem to just keep getting tougher.

Big Smile Perhaps Pete suffers from apathy.

Apathy toward anything that is not inane :D

As to the best way to put the toilet paper on the holder? Well me bein' from Texas I have opne o' them Dale Earnhart "Big Rig" toilet paper dispensers settin' on the counter next ta the toilet. That way when ahm doin' mah business I can look on at a legend of our time and be proud of mah accomplishment. Here's to you Dale (wipe)

Maybe I stepped into an odd little zone just then...

Anyway, I'm voting for being just being happy if there's any paper on the roll.

    Take care,

    Pete,
Your post got me thinking...I wonder if there is a "right" or "proper" way to place the new roll on the dispenser. I was looking on the web and found this interesting site:

    http://www.icbe.org/

Some of the posts are hysterical especially about what people talk about in the bathrooms. As I was using the facilities at work today two ladies were talking about one's recent car repairs. She heard a noise and took the car to the dealership for repair. She found out after the $50 fee for the checking that it was the battery low signal on her boyfriend's cell phone. I almost laughed out loud! Don't you know when I got back to my area I told everyone! We laughed and laughed. Now I have to find the shoes to find out who it was!

Here's how its done on Cape Cod.......

We just HATE to run out! This is the Cape Codder's approach. A simple and pragmatic solution, without involving the Sears Roebuck Catalog! I must plead guilty for putting the folds in just for the photo....just in case SHE drops by!

Pete, take notice of "over the top!" :D :D

    Geesh,
I have had it wrong all these years. Mine is just left on the tank cover, even occasionally in the bowl when the cats find it.

Hmmm, this just spawns yet another discussion... namely, what reading materials are used to stock your water closet?

Personally, Popular Science, Pipes & Tobaccos, and Scientific American find a home in mine!

As to the rationale behind the decidedly non-optical polls lately... sometimes one just has to get away from the business for a few minutes!!!

You've been away a lot lately......:D Now you can tell most of us that its work, but keep in mind I used to work for the Lisac's! I KNOW what work is!

Ok, I knew I was in trouble when I opened this poll, but I just had to see

Is it just my imagination, or is tiolet paper a much more important subject for men than it is for women? Bill goes into panic mode if we only have one or two rolls in the house.

In our house I like to have it hanging over the front, the cats don't seem to bother it either way.

    Yup, it's a guy thing...

My husband is a Costco junkie...the worst kind of Costco junkie...the one who shops without a list. Once my daughter and I counted 42 rolls of toilet paper in the closet and more Q-Tips than I'll live long enough to use. Don't get me started on the restaurant-sized jars of spices in my kitchen.

I'll take up the baton with another question, Harry...

How is it that the same lovely and beautiful woman who is so particular about the appearance of our house can take such a cavalier attitude towards a slovenly automobile!

I mean, I believe my wife would agree that her nagging (about the house) had the desired affect much earlier on than my nagging (about her car, which- ohmygod- she actually washed yesterday).

Is the male of the species just not as effective at nagging?

PS- No, I'm not suggesting its not my responsibility to wash the cars. However, why am I always picking sticky lollypop sticks out of carpet and cleaning up stains on the seats, and wiping goo from the cupholders? Cars are not meant to be eaten in!

Pete "Anally retentive about my car" Hanlin

PPS- I mean (can you tell this really vexes me), people get in the car and say "Wow, this is so nice and clean- I wish my car was like this (and its not because my car is new or anything- its 5 years old). I'm thinking Well, if you just went through and cleaned it once in a while...

Sorry, but it felt good to get that off my chest- dirty cars just drive me crazy!!!

Reading this thread is definitely the longest time I ever spent thinking about toilet paper--with the possible exception of years ago I was at DisneyWorld. We were staying at that hotel the monorail goes through, forget the name. Anyway came back one day after fun, fun, fun and went into the bathroom. That's when I noticed the maid had left the TP folded in a triangle (not to pun, but how anal is that?) and had impressed the ubiquitous Mickey head onto it. It freaked me out!!!

Pete H: I suspect your wife lets her car get funky just for the fun of torturing you. Or maybe I'm projecting.....

Yes, the first time I saw TP folded into a triangle was on a cruise my wife and I took a couple years ago. It struck me as a bit over the top as well.

However, I have one to beat all... The resort where I hold our Laboratory University program keeps cubed ice in the stand up men's urinals! Beyond being freakish, this is almost enough to make one feel uncomfortable about going at all!

PS- I hope you don't mean you are projecting a desire to torture me as well- my wife does a fine job all by herself!

    Over the front definitely

I think a lot of it depends on the wall.
If you have an Artex or stippled type wall and the dispenser offers only slight clearance, ouch, sore knuckles.

    obsession

I hang mine with the next sheet to be torn off on the outside. I have even been known to remove the roll and change the direction when in a bathroom that hangs it the wrong way. (I can't believe I just admitted to that)

Jackie, it's great to hear you admit it! Not only me, but my 2 sons also have this TP Fetish; and to think, we thought we were the only ones!

We have made it our life's work to educate the public on the correct way to hang toilet paper. There is only one way and of course it's hanging down from the front.

I've turned rolls around all over the world, I nearly missed an airplane recently when I spent 10 minutes unscrewing a section in an airport duty free area in order to correct their paper hanging mistake.

I'm thinking of starting a movement called "HANG IT RIGHT" and having stickers printed which can be attached to the walls of all rest rooms who inadvertently or even purposely hang TP the wrong way.
