    Fining pads?

For many years, we have used a 6" 400 grit fining pad for fining the edges of rimless lenses and fining out facets. I called to order some more and they said that they are now $3.75 a sheet, or $3.25/sheet for 100 sheets, which is a 6" circle of sandpaper with a hole in the middle; does anyone else use these pads, and do you have a supplier that is more reasonable? or has sandpaper just gotten this expensive, talk about inflation!!

Have you tried Chris-Ryser's site at OMS. I could spend days just browsing at the optical stuff that is available through there. UF also hit a spot.

I believe it to be http//:optochemicals.com. That is the site he sent me to when I was shopping for some products. Try that one and it should bring you there.

    Hi,
    would surfacing pads do it?
I think poly 1st fine are around 400 grit.

You'd be looking at about $50 for 1000 pads.

Well I did some research, on the 'net and found a company called Master Wholesale in Seattle Wa. the pads are velcro backed, come in 5" and 7" diameters. I use an older Briot "facet master" that uses a 10" felt pad, the pads i've always used have a peel off paper back with an adhesive that sticks to the felt pad. the new pads are thicker, with the velcro backing, but doesn't need to stick to the felt, it's sturdy enough to work fine without sticking down. well the old pads, as I said were $3.75 EACH, or $3.25 each if you're getting a 100. or $325/100. so the new pads are $0.96 EACH for the 7 inch pads, and $0.78 each for the 5". that $96/100, a considerable savings...hope this helps someone else..
