    Thumbs up Hockey

    All you hockey fans out there, don't forget about the BIG game this Saturday! The Heritage Hockey Classic.

    For the uninformed, the Oilers Alumni play the Canadiens Alumni. Gretzky, Messier, Lowe, Fuhr, et.al. vs. LaFleur and gang. Oh, and it'll be in Commonwealth Stadium (football), an outdoor game in front of 62,000 fans here in Edmonton.

    Following the Alumni game will be the current Oilers vs. the current Habs in the first ever outdoor NHL game. 3 pm MST for the Alumni game. Don't miss it!!

    Mike, it's only going to be about -12C... Ironically, the organizers were going to order in snow making equipment earlier this week to give the football field a good dusting of snow, you know, for the asthetics of being an outdoor game, and all. Then we got 15 cm two days ago. The hockey gods are pleased with us;-}

    Personally, I'd rather watch the game in the warm confines of my favourite watering hole than sit outside for 6 hours in minus 12, but I'm not as dyed in the wool true as others. BTW, the Oilers received over 900,000 ticket requests for the 60,00-ish seats. Edmonton only has a population of about a million. On the news this morning, one guy came all the way from the Czech Republic just for this, and another guy drove 16 hours from Wyoming.

    For a comparison, it'd be like the '78 Yankees and Dodgers alumni getting together for a game at the Meadowlands (capacity of what? over 100,000...) Or the '76 Steelers and Cowboys alum playing a game of scrimmage in Miami, followed by a 'real' game between the current teams.

    It should be in Calgary!
    Just Kidding. I can't wait to see the best team ever assembled skate circles around the Habs. Then Montreal can beat the current Oilers, so Calgary can get out of the basement.
