Visual Optics + Low Vision

I have a patient with DV Rx +7.00 and Near add +4.00 bringing her up to N18.

With a 7x illuminated mag she gets a poor N5.

What would be the effect of eliminating her DV Rx by clear lens extraction, assuming that she comes out plano post operatively?

Would she be better or worse off in her use of aids?

My VO is far too rusty to be able to get my head around this!

What is the cause of this patients low vision?

All things being equal I think the patient will lose some spectacle magnification if the end result is a plano dist Rx. But she may have improved vision having to deal less with abberations. Probably need alittle more info about the patient to hazzard a guess about wheather this improves her reading ability and quality of life.
