    Pupilometer?

I need to buy a new pupilometer to take some mono PD's. I have never had to buy one of these before so I am ignorant as far as cost and where to buy etc.....

    Any help is appreciated.

There is an essilor lab in the midwest (OK or KS or MO, I can't remember) which repairs the pupilometer.

They also sell used ones for perhaps $250? Can't remember exactly.

I've found the non-essilor pupilometers to be of questionable reliability and accuracy.

I do remember this essilor lab gave great service and was very friendly.

    Jerry,

I may be wrong, but that may formerly have been Duffens Lab. They also have one in Lenexa, KS, a short distance from Kansas City. They sold their labs to Essilor.

Not an Essilor, but it's $230 new.

When you get your pupilometer, don't forget to make sure it is calibrated correctly (if you purchase one from the Kansas lab, it should be- that's where we send them to be calibrated).

In an informal survey of pupilometers (yes, Pete spends his spare time wandering into local opticals looking at their pupilometers- so sad) revealed that about 40% of them were off a total of 1mm or more on the p.d.!

...so now you've all checked your pupilometers, right? If yours is off calibration, call the 1-888 number listed above.

    Bob,
You are right it is the old Duffens Lab in Topeka. Essilor has set up their instruments there.

I still have an old friend there and emailed him a picture we had taken on Okinawa in 1968.

EyeWeb! One of my friends here at Essilor worked on setting up EyeWeb accounts (Bettey). I don't suppose she stopped by your office?

Strangely enough, I remember visiting the EyeWeb booth three or four years ago at VEE. Seemed like a plausible idea- just not in the way they originally planned to execute it (i.e., setting up kiosks in malls and letting patients measure themselves and pick up eyewear at the practitioners).

Does EyeWeb allow your patients to "try on" frames from their home via the internet?
