  • Is it permissible for us to dispense the extra box?

Our optometrist specifies a maximum allocation on his prescriptions, such as '12 lenses per eye annually.' Consequently, whenever we fulfill one of these contact lens prescriptions, we must review the patient's order history to ensure we haven't exceeded their annual limit. If we accidentally order more than allowed, is it permissible for us to dispense the extra box?

It's a prescription. Fill as he or she wrote it. Are you an Ophthalmologist as indicated on your profile?

No way. It’s like if the doctor said “patient can only order three pairs of glasses”. Totally permissible, order as many as the patient would like.

This is a matter of state law. There are reasons you can limit quantity in my state.

This is likely a consumer question.

That is correct. In my state if it has limitations, we have to follow them. Just like Pharmacists have to follow.
