    Redhot Jumper Heat Advisory!

Ahhh, the joys of an Arizona summer!

NORTHWEST MARICOPA COUNTY...GREATER PHOENIX AREA...SOUTHWEST MARICOPA COUNTY...NORTHWEST AND NORTH CENTRAL PINAL COUNTY
    440 AM MST MON JUL 14 2003

...A HEAT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT TODAY FOR SOUTH-CENTRAL ARIZONA INCLUDING THE GREATER PHOENIX METROPOLITAN AREA...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A HEAT ADVISORY FOR TODAY...FOR THOSE LIVING IN NORTHWEST...CENTRAL...AND SOUTHWEST
MARICOPA COUNTY...AS WELL AS IN NORTHWEST PINAL COUNTY. THE GREATER PHOENIX METROPOLITAN AREA IS INCLUDED IN THE ADVISORY AREA. NEAR RECORD OR RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES ARE FORECAST...AND THE HOT WEATHER COULD BE A HEALTH HAZARD ESPECIALLY TO THE YOUNG...THE ELDERLY...AND THOSE OUTDOORS...IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN TO STAY COOL AND WELL HYDRATED.

TODAY'S HIGH TEMPERATURES OVER SOUTH CENTRAL ARIZONA WILL RANGE FROM 112 DEGREES AT CAREFREE TO 118 DEGREES AT GILA BEND. RELATIVE HUMIDITY WILL LOWER TO BETWEEN 10 AND 15 PERCENT DURING THE HEAT OF THE DAY.

INDIVIDUALS CAN SUFFER HEAT-RELATED ILLNESS WHEN THE BODY TEMPERATURE SYSTEM CAN NO LONGER COOL ITSELF. STAY INDOORS WHERE IT IS MUCH COOLER. IF YOU MUST BE OUTSIDE...STAY IN THE SHADE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AND DRINK ABUNDANT AMOUNTS OF WATER. WEAR LIGHT COLORED AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING...AND A WIDE BRIMMED HAT WILL KEEP THE HEAD AND BODY MUCH COOLER.
It's 115 degress right now. Even my pool is too hot!

    Steve,
you're supposed to turn on the aerators to cool the water now.

Also it's a bad idea to be using your computer while you're in the pool.:D

We must be a bunch of wusses here in Kansas City. They put a heat advisory up and it's only 94.

Good idea, but how much difference can one small aerator make in an 18,000 gallon pool?

That's one of the reasons why I can't understand why anyone would want to live there. Make money and leave, yes. But live there? Of course, I also don't understand people who live in places where they have real winters.

The thermometer on the patio hit 115.8 at 3:15 this afternoon and the pool felt absolutely wonderful! With a 28 degree temperature difference, it actually felt cold at first.

Had a chat with a good friend from MN this am. He's of Norwegian descent and anything above freezing is too hot for him. He'd asked about the temp. When I told him and noted that it really wasn't that bad, he said that the heat had obviously addled my brain.

I replied that when temps approached boiling, I simply asked myself whether I'd rather be in MN at -20 or here at +115. We both agreed that there was only one answer...except that his answer wasn't mine.

    115? Is that all?

Once you get past 90 degrees it doesn't matter what the actual temperature is because it's just plain HOT! :)

We get the heat advisories quite often around these parts, but it's just something you live with.

Take care and stay out of the heat.

It is by universal misunderstanding that all agree. For if, by ill luck, people understood each other, they would never agree.

Steve, if your fridge has an automatic ice maker, you could hook it up to the pool filter, and keep the cubes flowing into the pool, where they'd, and lower the water temp, of course as you can see, i've been out in the sun too much here; and for you folks that don not understand the vastness of the Republic of Texas, we just has a hurricane hit the coast in south Texas, and they're not even daring to predict rain in north Texas??? Darris might get a few clouds though..

What's a Heat advisory? I understand rain and flood warnings but not heat.

As the warning says "Individuals can suffer heat-releated illness when the body temperature system can no longer cool itself." Heat stroke is the most common danger.

He could just move that beer fridge from the patio next to the pool & cut a little shoot out on the freezer door so the cubes can just slide out into the pool. Then the beer would be handy too. Let us know when you've finished Steve, so we can stop over.

Lee, I think a "heat advisory" in Washinton, would be like having all of the houses in your neighbohood afire, about that much heat, so beware...

You are so right about that! We actual complain when temp gets above 72. I must confess though that at our place in E. WA in gets above 100 many a day and as a kid I grew up in Las Vegas so I do know heat. 115 outside and Johnny did not want to come out to play.

I appreciate all the references to a tall, cool one while in the heat of the day but, one of my most disappointing moments on moving to AZ was to discover that I absolutely could not drink enuf beer and actually had to substitute plain water!!!!! Humiliating!

Played golf yesterday (it got up to 117), drank copious quantities of HOH and haven't peed yet!
