Major Frame Manufacturer about to be acquired

Marcolin is selling, all the big frame manufacturing sharks are circling. Essilux will always have the deepest pockets, so thats my bet.

For quality sake, I hope Kering acquires them.

I stopped carrying Marcolin years ago due to customer service issues. I'd certainly welcome Kering or Marchon acquiring them. Weren't Marchon and Marcolin under the same corporate umbrella back in the day?

Essilux doesn't need companies. It takes brands it wants.

Merger/aquisition? It would seem like it would depend on their hard assest and profits more than brands.

Tom Ford is probably the most attractive brand that Marcolin has a license with. Marcolin signed a perpetual license renewal with them recently. They've renewed most of their licensed brands in the past year as well as purchasing ic Berlin. I'm sure all in the effort to boost sale price.

Anytime private equity takes over a business (in this case Marcolin), it is only a matter of time until the business is sold.

Europa went to a private equity firm recently.

Before there was Optiboard(?) they were partnered and made displays' and promotions together for a while as I recall.

I recall Marcolin being the "little brother" of Marchon and were based in Canada before they merged- but could be wrong.

I believe their booths were always next to each other at shows. Their reps also usually came in together like Avante Garde and Ber-Del did.

A story out there from a long time ago when Marchon elbowed their way into the big time, was the NY convention center hosting the annual show was not going to allow the premier booth at the entrance to the show to them as it was promised to another frame line. But being New York and who Marchon's owners were back then it got resolved after a few phone calls and everyone walked away (literally;) satisfied but only one was happy.

Or so I remember being told.

The day after I posted the question I found an ancient PD stick in my lab that says MARCHON on one side and MARCOLIN on the other.

    Hijack time-
Do you know the back story of why when Van Halen toured, they always had the venue contract (Article 126) require bowls of M&M's backstage with all the brown M&M's removed???

Because they were making sure the promoters were actually reading the contract. ( I didn’t need to cheat). Now, back to your regular program hour..
