What reason is there to prescribe differnt cyl across multiple prescriptions?

Got a patient with three RXs (near, comp, dist)

    Dist
    -1.00 -1.00 *090
    -1.00 -1.00 *090

    Comp
    PL -1.00 *090
    PL -1.25 *090

    Read
    +1.00 -1.00 *090
    +1.00 -1.00 *090

You can see the comp Rx has a -1.25 for the left cyl. Thought it was a mistake and I called the Dr but they said they did it on purpose.

    So.... yeah..... what???!?!?

Picky patient who is probably an engineer?

My doc's had a few PITA patients they let play with the phoroptor dials and gave them the script they came up with.

Coming back to check the rx becomes an embarrassment so they don't.

Patient uses a wide monitor. That extra cyl will squish it extra so he doesn’t have to turn his head as much….

We have a handful that like to write their own RX and the doctor just kind of relented and gave them the script they wanted. I want to scream when I fill that RX with glasses and the patient complains that their vision isn't perfect...

Yours is not to question why,
Yours is but to fill or resign

Are we clear that redo's will be charged at 50% off???

It doesn't matter. It's not from "rounding error" but some weird prescribing fetish or typo.

But Barry's right: it's inconsequential. The patient will have no idea whether you use -1.00 or -1.25.

Fester's right: just do it and fugedaboudit.

This is where I get paranoid over a patient who has the written rx's and can see a difference in the cyl.

Not telling them, "this is unusual", but has been verified by the prescribing doc, limits re-do's as the patient doesn't blame a doctor but an optician for making the glasses wrong.

This is someone you know well so turn up the schmoozness, lots of positive vibes and offer her a chocolate at the dispensing;)
