peripheral vision help?

i have a patient who just got new glasses about a week ago, and has come back noting issues with his peripheral vision, rx reads as correct and the central vision is great, the only two things different is his prior pair was a metal pair and this one is zyl, additionally his old pair read a BC at 6 and the zyl a BC at 5... would that effect things that much? or is he just seeing the edge of his frame and not liking it..

rx reads as

Is he just seeing basic progressive distortion? What is the shape of the old lens compared to the new? Is he in a newer high tech PAL?

In my experience when all else fails and doctors have no explanation, they usually fall back on saying it is a base curve issue.

Some questions before you just assume its a BC issue and remake it with a 6...

Is there any difference in the eye size between the original frame and the new one?

If you add some face form wrap to the frame does he feel like his peripheral vision is better?

Same material?

Did you use a digital lens? Or did he have a digital lens in the original pair?

You used an add power, was this a progressive lens? Did you use the same lens design as he had in the past? Did his add and or his distance get more plus power?

Dwik, Assuming the old lenses were PALs and a similar Rx... as Michael said, could be a different design PAL, where more of the surface astigmatism gets positioned in the distance periphery. In general, high cyl Rxs work better when used with harder designs, especially when the axis is more oblique.
