Can the block type be changed on AIT Speede maual blocker?

As the title suggests - any way to change from say the old metal 1682A blocks, to the newer plastic block style (with the ridges around the circumferance? It would require changing the gripping mechanism I'm certain, but not sure if that's even a thing? Would *DEARLY* love something made in this millennium, but the owners aren't budging.

    TIA!

Give a engineer at a machine shop a challenge like that and he will make you a "gripping mechanism" to hold whatever type block you want, just bring him the block you want to use and compensate him accordingly for his efforts. I have done this several times on optical equipment that needs repaired.

The gripping mechanism is call a “chuck” (called the same on an edger). You need to identify the chuck your edger is using and match it. The alternative is to find a chuck “set” that fits your edger and blocker. Make sure whenever changing chucks on blockers and/or edgers to check axis afterwards.

Thanks guys! Yep - the chuck is what I meant. My brain has been a bit fried trying to learn all this ancient equipment, figuring out what works, what doesn't, and what can be "tuned-up" in any way to make things faster/cheaper/better. This poor finish lab has seen better days for sure. Appreciate the info however!
