    Frame needed

    I recently had a patient come in, with a broken frame. He just got it from Pakistan with 2 other pairs, (cheaper than one pair in my office, he told me) . Problem: I don't want to re-edge lenses, glass of questionable C.T., the frame is not repairable, and he wants to spend as close to no money as possible, you know 5 kids just as many wives etc. etc. Solution: Looking for a new frame, Brand name: Smart, supplier R.O.K. ? style 9069 size 56/18 color 5090. Description: large thin plastic aviator double bridge with metal temples, conjures up gorgeous thought doesn't it. Thanks in advance, I was going to attach a digital picture but I didn't want to ruin anyones monitor. :)

    How about, I'm sorry I can't help you with this and save yourself A LOT on unnecessary aggrevation. I work all day with this "type" of patient and it always comes back to bite you in the ***. Not trying to be mean just my experience.

    I'm mulling over some things on this day of independence for our country, and this thread seemed interesting to me. You know, sometimes we are called on for more than what is the obvious. What did we get into this business for? Obviously, not all of us did it for the same thing.

    I was thinking that periodically, we should look at the ethics that we should maintain, and see whether we come up wanting. This is taken from the Georgia State Board website under rules. I feel certain that similar statements are found in other licensing laws and rules.

    420-4-.03 Code of Ethics.
    The following code of ethics is hereby adopted by the Board to govern and as a guide for the conduct of licensed dispensing opticians in the practice of opticianry in this state. Each licensed optician shall:

    (a) Keep the visual welfare of the customer uppermost at all times;

    (b) Promote in every possible way the better care of the visual needs of the citizens of this state;

    (c) Enhance continuously his/her educational and technical proficiency to the end that his/her customers shall receive the benefits of all acknowledged improvements in visual care;

    (d) See that no worthy person shall lack for opticianry service regardless of the financial status of the person;

    (e) Advise each customer whenever consultation with an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist for professional care seems advisable;

    (f) Hold in confidence all information concerning a customer and use such data only for the benefit of the customer;

    (g) Conduct himself/herself as an exemplary citizen;

    (h) Maintain his office and practice in harmony with true professional standards;

    (i) Maintain and promote cordial and useful mutual relationships with members of his profession and other professions for the interchange of information for the advantage of mankind; and

    (j) Refrain from any exaggeration of a customer's condition.

    Authority O.C.G.A. Sec. 43-29-6. History. Original Rule entitled "Code of Ethics" adopted. F. May 16, 1990; eff. Jun. 5, 1990.

    OK, now that said, most of you know that I believe in fashion forward eyewear, and making money. That also stated, I believe that our responsibilities to our patients/customers/clients requires that we explain things to them, and attempt to offer them product or services that will help them, or refer them somewhere else.

    Some of the collections from the companies that BobV mentioned could work. If you have concerns about the safety of the lenses, themselves, discuss the safety issue with the customer. That is your responsibility.

    Just a few thoughts, and ramblings. Gotta go get food ready for the grill.

    Diane

    :cheers:
