    Shamir Spark device?

Have any of yall have any shamir reps coming around talking about the Spark device they have that is able to take custom measurements as well as PD and sght? What did yall think? Did you wind up buying it? I know yall are mostly old so you'd probably be against technology, but I did see a bunch of benefits of it. Thanks

6 years ago I tried an older version (2, they are now on 4) of it for a few weeks. It's cool because it's not just a janky ipad attachment like several other digital measuring devices out there, it's a free-standing tabletop mirror. Also, it does not need a detection device clipped onto the frames. I liked everything about the idea, but that older version at least was just not accurate. I took much better PDs and OCs with a marker. Also, it wasn't a self-contained unit, it needed to be plugged in via USB to a computer that ran the software. Not portable, and I would either have to have customers play musical chairs when it comes time to measure, or get a separate unit for each dispensing station. I eventually sent it back. I use a good old Visioffice 2. 10 years old and still impresses people, and perfectly accurate.

If the 4 significantly improves the accuracy, and is a self-contained computer that needs nothing more than to be plugged in to power, then I think it would be great.

    The Spark 2 I had.

I use it I love it wish I could afford 3 of them. Not cheap but amazing. the Spark 4 is a HUGE improvement of the Spark Miii I had, no more dotting lenses. I can't expect all my employees to take vertex measurements by hand unfortunately.

If you're familiar with the custom measurements that you can do with progressives, it's able to grab all the values for those measurements, as well as PD and sght, all in one picture. It's actually pretty incredible when I worked with it.

I still dot lenses as well because I'm obsessive and compulsive about fitting glasses. I've had enough -6.00 Cyl people tell me how the pairs I've made with the Spark are so much better. I'm not sure I'll ever stop dotting the pupil height though, its just another data point. Thats what I teach my staff.

Michael- Read the edit- it was a double post. With positive reviews from OB I would in a heartbeat but it is late in my career!!!

I could see it replacing an optician for about $5,300.

I HAD the Spark Mi Up (last version).

    It.....totally.........SUCKED!

Could not get it to work consistently. Had the rep work on it and try to get it to work multiple times.

We had high hopes for it! Biggest disappointment in my 38 year career.......and I've had a lot of disappointments!

Shamir eventually took it back and refunded us.

Set the height 2/3 up from the frame bottom and use a PD for men 32.5 32.5 women 30.5 30.5.

Works for a lot of price conscience people!!!
