Hand Edger for Glass Mineral Lenses?

Hey all, I'm looking for a vendor that has hand edgers that will work to take down glass/mineral lenses if needed. Wheel needs to be diamond or ceramic. Long story short - we'll be receiving glass lenses already edged just to mount into frames that we have and so far the sizing is too large and management wants me to source a wheel to edge them down instead of reorder.


Anyone have any suggestions? I've tried contacting the big optical suppliers so far with very little response

PS: I know this is a terrible idea, already mentioned the risk of chipping, PPE needed, etc to the bosses...

I don’t know if Canada has impact resistance standards for glass lenses, but if you re-edge or hand edge a glass lens that’s been temper, it will degrade the surface tension leaving it much less impact resistant. Standard course is to re-temper the lens after hand edging. If Canada has such a law, tell the boss he’ll have to buy a temper unit or risk selling non-tempered/hardened lenses.

Any diamond wheel used to hand cut any type of plastic lens will cut glass, I know this because I have done it. After all diamonds are know for how hard they are.
BUT.......better dedicate that "hand stone", as some of us old timers will refer to it, dedicate it strictly for glass lenses only or you are going to destroy any type plastic lenses that touch it.

Plated wheels don’t hold up remotely as long as a bonded wheels grinding/beveling glass.

You must use a bonded diamond to grind glass. If lenses are heat treated they will probably shatter if you try to reedge them. If they were chem hardened you might have some success.
