I was interviewed years ago regarding this legal action. The crux of the case was not about whether Accufit was in fact, more accurate, but that the subsequent manufacturing processes downstream in eyeglasses could not deliver the same level of accuracy in the finished eyewear.
True then and true today.

I asked a similar question in a continuing ed class when the speaker was talking about being able to digitally surface to 0.01D. "What is the advantage of surfacing to 0.01D when refractions are done to 0.25D?" While I was congratulated by a few other students, I was not very popular with the speaker.
