    Looking for Colorado/Wyoming advice

I am planning a summer vacation w/ my wife, our 5 yr. old son, and a 13 yr old niece.

My wife wants to run a few miles a day, my 5 yr old wants to see cowboys, and my niece and I want to ride horses a few times. We own horses, so we don't really want the "dude ranch" thing w/ all the city slickers. A nice stables, somewhere near some hot spring pools, and maybe a few good trails for bike riding. We're going to be out there (Wyoming/Colorado area) for about 2 weeks, and would probably make the Denver vicinity our base for the first 4 or 5 days. Do any locals have any "off the beaten path" reccomondations ?

    Any advice greatly appreciated !

If you like wilderness, try the Ouray/Silverton area of Colorado (SW area). Great places to hike, outstanding scenery, and you can ride one of the few remaining NARROW GAUGE trains. It goes between Durango and Silverton. Rent a jeep and cruise up Engineer Mountain.... or if you are really into off-roading do Blackbear (jeep road).

Years ago, you could get a ticket on the railway to drop you off in the middle of the San Jaun Wilderness area. They stop to pick you back up at a designated date. It's you and nature way out where there ain't many people!!

In Wyoming go to Jackson (town) in what's called Jackson Hole. Take the raft trip down the Snake river - it's way fun, but plenty cold. You can (use to) take a glider ride around the Teton area if they still run it. That was splendid.
See Yellowstone too, but not if you're going in the non-school time of year. Way too many people unless you stay in the North side of the park. Fishing can be good up that way. Fly fishing is great if you like that type (I do), but spinners in the rivers work as well.

pinedale wy is fantastic! the town has a site, there are several outfitters there as well, in case you would like a longer excursion. for info, or someone local to speak to, try bucky's outdoors in pinedale.. no matter where you go out there, you really can't miss.
