    Shamir Spark Mi Mirror

    http://www.shamirlens.com/index.php?...530&Itemid=395

My rep says this is available and from the looks of it, it works much better than the other designs out there. No contraption to fit to the frame. No having patients do the do-si-do and micro-managing their posture. Works with sunglass lenses.

    Anyone have one of these?

We did a trial with it. The poor rep couldn't get it to work, I couldn't get it to work, and tech support couldn't get it to to work. At one point I was told we were waiting on some input for Israel, and I gave up.

In "offline" mode, when we were testing and getting a demonstration, we couldn't get repeatable results.

I'm waiting for version 2 or 3, too many kinks for me.

My Shamir rep told me that typically the branded designs work best for their specific brands, but that using the Spark Mi for measuring say a HOYA lens is more likely to cause issues than if you were to use it to measure a Shamir lens. I don't have any direct experience with this device, but I used to use the original Spark (the one that fit over an iPad camera) with reasonable success. I also used Essilor's VisiOffice, but that was a hassle dealing with posture and position and all that nonsense. To be honest, I have had more success than both of them using just good old fashioned hand tools, which is what we use now.

Will your rep give you an in-office trial of it before you commit to purchasing one?

Thanks for the feedback. We had a horrible time with the Hoya version here and were replacing most measurements with our hand done ones anyways so we got rid of it. We do still use more Hoya than Shamir lenses so I will have to keep that in mind...

I'll probably follow PartTimer's logic and wait for the future version if we can't try as a trial.
