I disagree with your premise. To nominate a VCP as the worst implies that there are some that are good.
Worst vision "insurance" plan for providers? = YES.
There is literally NO plan that has the practice nor the patient's best interests first. They are in it for them, and for THEIR huge amounts of money. Period. Hard stop. End of discussion.
Home Depot has an amazing plan. It's through the dreaded E but the patient can have anything and everything with almost nothing out of pocket. I always hook-up Home Depot employees. Lucky ducks...
Have I told you today how much I hate poly?
Care to provide specifics on what makes it so great? I'm having a really hard time with the free lunch idea happening here. What plan is it and is Home Depot corporate so generous that they are paying through the nose for vision plans for their employees?
The Home Depot plan covers nearly everything. Progressives, Transitions, AR, adult poly...actually I think it even covered a 1.67 upgrade. About the only thing the patient ends up paying is the 80% on frame overage, but even the frame allowance was pretty liberal.
What a great plan - and just think - the chargebacks you'll get to give back to the "insurance" company are staggering no doubt!
It ain't so great when you're making no money...
Yeah, when everything's "pre-sold" at the H.R. department-VCP sales team level, you don't get your "spiff" for upselling.
To wit: if something's covered, you get jack-squat as a dispenser.
I don't get paid to pimp Transitions, I don't pimp Transitions.
I don't get paid to upsell to an individualized PAL, I'm not breaking my back.
I don't get paid to provide polycarb, I won't even mention it.
Why should I waste my time discussing options choices? I just give them what I want and that's that.
Amen
Strangely, the Home Depot plan (I don't remember the Group name, I'll pay attention next time) actually gives us back a decent amount from Eyemed. The Pt gets to choose what upgrades obviously. I'm certainly not tacking poly on to everyone's orders!
It's not the ideal percentage of profit, but we aren't loosing on these.
What I don't like is the new 'certain selection of frame is free' and that's it. We have awesome frames and when these plans come in they feel like they have to pick from value stock or they are wasting their benefit.
