New Optical Chain Shoppers Drug Mart

The well known Shoppers Drug Mart chain owned by Loblaws, will soon be test piloting new optical stores in a few of its Ontario locations. I'm surprised they waited this long to enter the optical arena.

Backed by Loblaws and its own iron clad branding, I see this as being a very successful venture.

    Thoughts?

I'm surprised they didn't do their test market pilot here in British Columbia.

Chains in Canada seems to be the future in the optical retail business. When the times are going to be right, they can sell them in a big package to the new Essilux for good money.

It all points to the demise of the good old fashioned family owned optical retailer.

Loblaw owned stores will most probably be placed in heavy traffic areas close to or inside their supermarkets.
