    I am in love...

One of my passions is automobiles- there, I've said it. I'm one of those people who washes his car every weekend for the fun of it.

Since I was six years old, I have had a fascination with what is, IMO, the ultimate automobile- the Ford Mustang. I have owned three Mustangs, including a '65 that I drove every day for 18 months (no A/C, PB, or PS and an AM radio in Florida's heat, and I STILL loved driving that car).

Anyway, a few weeks ago, I saw Ford's concept for the 2005 Mustang in a magazine at the airport. I've attached a couple pics below, but you can see more at: 2005 Ford Mustang

Suffice it to say, the day this car hits the dealers, I will be driving my Camaro to the lot to trade it for this stunning example of retro-done-right. I get goosebumps everytime I see a picture of the concept car, and that's what MUSTANG is all about.

Is this a gorgeous automobile or what?!?

    Exclamation Oh, my...

Looks an awful lot like my '67 GT.

    Though here's my current flame:

Very nice... I like the way the exhaust is centered in the back (kinda like a Porsche). The Panel Cruiser is also an interesting concept.

The Jaguar convertible is pretty sharp as well... if I were going for a non-American car (Jaguar being owned by Ford makes it an American car, right?- that should get John's ire up!), the BMW 325 Ci would fit the bill quite nicely!

My wife recently sold her '90 Volvo and got a new Infinity G35 Sedan, which has the same engine and drivetrain as the Z350, but if it was my car, i'd have gotten the G35 Coupe, sort of a cross between the two. really nice ride...

Nice Moostang. Actually started car shopping this week.

Alas, the Viper is still a few years...and a few more mortgage payments away yet.

Has anybody seen the new GTO yet?

The Mustang is pretty. I am waiting to see the new GTO myself. 5.7 liter engine with 340 horsepower @ 5200 rpm and 360 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. Top speed is estimated at 160 mph.

Go to http://www.pontiac.com/ and click on "vehicles" on the menu bar going across. At the bottom you will see "Upcoming Vehicles" click on GTO to see the model due out late 2003.

I'm with Shanbaum all the way. The 300 HemiC. Even though I've been saying for five years the automakers should restyle some of the muscle year cars w/todays technology, so far only Ford has wised up. I can't believe GM thinks they can just apply the GTO badge to a car that looks like all the other ones on the road & think we will get excited!!!
We have to rely on the classic car enthusiasts to do what the big three should have done 5 years ago. I would buy one of these:

Now see, you folks are looking at what car manufacturers design. What you ought to be looking at are cars American masters design:

One very beautiful model is the Grand Master styled after a 1935 Chevy Master Series Two Door Sedan. Take a look:

Well Jo, I admit that is a great looking car, however it appears to be one of a kind & not available to all of us. On the other hand the Hemi Supercuda I posted will be available to anyone who can afford one in 2004 from alohadreamcars.alohadreamcars

Just to bring us back to Ford... I think the Viper has some company now!

If you have about a quarter mil to drop on an auto (ie, you work in something more profitable than ophthalmic optics), the Aston Martin has 450hp and goes 0-60 in under 4.5 ticks...

Yummy! She kinda looks like Eleanor from Gone in 60 Seconds. Why is it that in the two most memorable cinematic Mustang scenes (involving Steve McQueen and Nicholas Cage), the poor Stang gets trashed in the process? If those filmakers only knew the pain they were putting me through!

Now that I've been scanning for any and all info on the 2005 Stang, I see that the production car will actually be MORE retro than the show car. In fact, the one thing mentioned by those who have seen the new Stang's production version concerned the tail-lights (which was the one feature I didn't particularly like on the show car). Seems Ford is going with something more "true" to the original (by that I take it to mean Ford will put the traditional tri-pillar lights on the back).

I'm particularly hoping Ford retains the GT-inspired trumpeted tailpipes that emerge through the rear skirt. I'm telling you, if this car looks close to what I'm imagining, it may well be the last vehicle I ever purchase. I've even figured out my rationalizations for an early release purchase (my oldest is 8, so he'll be 10 when I purchase the Stang, plus four years to have it paid off, and I won't have to carry collision on it when he gets to driving- insurance- age).

Now the bummer is having to wait for a year and a half for the opportunity to purchase one of these babies (the GT is supposedly going to put out 320 horsies from a 5.0 V8 built on the current 4.6 block). A-n-t-i-c-i-p-a-t-i-o-n!!!

Somebody at Ford deserves a raise, promotion (and, if he's a she, a big fat kiss) for going back to the Pony/Muscle car's roots (and to think Ford tried to discontinue the Stang in the 80's!).
