The only problem w/ the display is that if you don't clean the display constantly, people will start asking for the non-coated part, because of all the smudges that show up on the A-R side.
The most effective demo is to just wear a pair !

Heres another idea, make up a pair of glasses that you can put on when needed. Have one lens AR and the other non AR. Put it on and let the patient see for themselves.
And yet another idea...
Cut a pair of planos, one AR and one not, into a frame. I have a couple of samples: a drilled rimless, a little tortoise zyl, and a few sharp lookin' metals. They are all "high-end designer" frames.
Not only does it show the cosmetic advantages of AR, but it could also let them see the visual benefits. Let the patient sit in front of the monitor or the window with the sample on, and hold a mirror up so they can see themselves. Smile!
Does it work? Absolutely! Why use the designer stuff? Because it SELLS! I've seen people (you know who you are) put thin/thick samples to show off the beauty of high index into some old beat up frame front pulled out of the junk drawer. So here they are, trying to sell a more expensive pair of lenses, in an U-G-L-I-E frame. It's the right idea, but the wrong approach. It's all in the presentation. Not only that, but I've had more than a handfull of patients fall in love with the samples, and pick up a second pair. That's why I use the good stuff.
Keeping them clean is definitely a plus. Wanna know a secret? Show the patient how to clean the glasses properly, using the samples. They are always spotless, and it's less work for me!

I have acquired 2 wonderful demonstrators through Hoya Lens (UK).
It's a 'test room' demo which is designed to be used in a dark room to simulate night driving. The wall mounted unit simulates rear lights of vehicle whilst the set comes complete with coated and uncoated specs. I find the best way to demonstrate is to show the effect of the uncoated specs, then pop the coated lens on top, otherwise the effect is spoiled when the px looks at the red light with no specs at all during the switch!
This is easily the most effective demo I have ever seen, for any product. Truly. Can't beat a 100% record. Everyone who I have demonstrated this to, has bought the product. It has to be seen, would it be available to you through hoya in the states.
It's pretty cheap over here too, less than £40 from memory. That was a couple of years ago.:cheers:
I agree that showing your own sample whether it's your own pair or a "dummy pair". Sola has a sample that shows the center of the lens with AR and the outside edge of the lens without. But you do have to keep it clean like mentioned earlier. Zeiss has a similiar sample too.

My thoughts were more something that demonstrates to the patient how they see better with A/R and with less glare vs. uncoated lens. Just wearing a pair or having a half coated lens only shows the cosmetics of the coating. How can we show them the results?

Seriously, my favorite has always been the lens with the circle in the middle. It does a fabulous job of showing off the AR difference.
Another trick that can be used to show the visual benefit is to edge a pair of the "half coated / half uncoated" lenses into a frame. Orient the line that divides the lens vertically, and put the AR'd side of each lens on the same side (e.g., temporally on the right and nasally on the left). Edge the lenses to a 62 pd.
Have the patients try the glasses and look to their left- then to their right. This provides a binocular example of the difference AR makes in their vision. Its usually pretty dramatic and will sell the patient on AR. It helps if your office has ceiling floodlights- which tend to reflect quite nicely (or the little halogens that are mounted in the top of some frame displays work quite well also).

Hey some of these old threads have some real gems in them.
I like Pete's idea. I had never thought of edging the AR demo lens into a frame. I've done the one with AR and one with out but I'd bet each lens being split stands out more.
I'll also throw in a plug for the butterfly box. It's a little gimmicky but it works. Every patient wants their lens like the clear side. And you get to mess with them a bit making them reach for a butterfly. It delivers a little comedic value.
Properly medicated for your protection.
I agree the butterfly really gets the message to the consumer. I love when they say, " Oh, there's glass there!"

Dittos on this reply. People are very surprised when shown this demo. We placed a black cloth under it to eliminate any slight reflection from the glass counter it sits on, though.
The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.
Big E just sent us a new display with a 50/50 coated lens but I still like the center circle one better.
Oh- and I'll nit pick how they insist it helps eliminate glare on the table cards. I believe technically it's enhancing polarized light (glare) by nor reflecting or absorbing it.
OK I'll admit most of the public doesn't know the difference.
