Refracting Optician in Pa??

In our MD office, we have a Certified Ophthalmic Tech that refracts. She said a COA can also refract. Does anyone have any experience with this? I would like to become certified to refract, I am currently ABO Certified. Am I right in thinking I could sit for the COA test and be able to refract in an Ophthalmology office??

In virtually every state, an MD can write off on any refraction performed by anyone, you need no initials after your name. (OD's can't in any state that I know of).

We have several techs in our office that are not certified and refract. Just as optical24/7 states, any MD can write off on an Rx. You just can't sign it yourself.
