    2017 Focusing on the Future

I'm curious as to which 2016 trends impacted the eyecare industry and affected how you practice your profession. From new technology in processing and diagnostic tools such as POW measuring devices to lens designs and enhancements, 2016 certainly was an innovative year.

In my opinion the top 3 for me were Free Form/Digital Individualization, Blue Light Radiation Management with AR/ in lens filters and Media Optics geared towards devices such as smart phone , laptop etc.

What do you predict will be the greatest advancement in Eyecare for 2017?

More of a wish list than a prediction, but I'm hoping for improvements with electroactive eyeglasses.

I would like to see an independently owned laboratory that has the ability to quantify the optical qualities of various lenses. I.e., a "Lens Guru".

Of what specific "optical qualities" do you refer to? Are you looking for physical characteristics, geometric characteristics or optical characteristics.

LenSync independent labs are coming in 2017!

I have a few that can be of service in that area; they are all independent and can build you the lenses you design via LenSync. The future of LenSync is giving you the ability to see what type of lens design is being used and ensuring that is what is produced by our partner labs.

Instead of using someone else's design; how about using your choice of 60 to start? You can design the lens to be any emphasis you can imagine and then some! The client and you will know anything you can imagine about the lenses as far as thickness, base curve and design emphasis. You can even show them the effects of moving the corridor up or down or making the design softer in the near.

Barry Santini has seen a preview and seemed rather pleased with what he saw. I will post more in the coming weeks as we finalize one more lens contract prior to being able to demonstrate the entire platform.

The lab owners need an independent lens platform to help differentiate themselves from the pack while ensuring that "bad orders" can't be placed. Imagine a system where bad lens orders are rejected prior to hitting send!
