    Screw Mount Rimless?

Other than Shuron, are there any other manufacturers making durable, preferably spring-hinged screw-mount three piece rimless anymore? I'm looking for a more DIY friendly alternative to bushing-mounted rimless-- something that someone could theoretically do a quick "field repair" on with a simple repair kit. I'm not totally down on the Shuron Regis, but I have had complaints about the gold or silver color fading quickly (after ~1-2 years of wear) and it would be nice to offer a less obtrusive alternative than the in-your-face retro style. Suggestions?

Art craft has some options that might fight your billing.

Fast repairs on Silhouette-type rimless is actually pretty easy, and the needed tools/supplies pretty minimal. If you simply prefer screw mountings, fine, but don't think they're easier; the opposite is true.

EDIT EDIT - or do you mean for the patient to do? Better make sure they know what happens to the warranty when they screw up.

Well, if you thought it was witty, then of course that's what I meant. Otherwise, a quirk of language. Really, encouraging DIY is a good way to bet the farm.

YMMV. I can get a pair of busted screw-mounts back into a patient's hands in twenty minutes. Takes me a good hour to do a pair with bushings. I'm also thinking of patient "field repairs." If a nut loosens when a patient is out and about in his daily life, he can tighten it back up with a miniature screwdriver key chain for sale at Wal-Mart for $3.99. If his Silhouettes or Airlocks loosen up, he's SOL and has to make his way back to me-- which, schedule dependent, isn't always a feasibility. My patients also can't buy a pair of bushings at Lowe's for a few bucks the way they could a tiny screw and/or nut.

I find that bushings rarely if ever come out but screws always loosen.

Not to toot my own horn but I can easily remount sillohuette or Charmant 3 piece frames in under 10-15 minutes, if I was being timed ;)

Again I will not argue with your YMMV reccomendation, but screw mounts are not my favorite anymore.

Screw mounts can be better for high rxs. As for loosening on screw mounts, use blue locktite (just not with poly lenses). It's kind of a pain to clean up, but you won't have to deal with the retightening later.

On a screw mount cut the screw then place a metal end cap so it reaches the nut, it will be a long time before it loosens up.
Bushings should only be used on frames that have a flexible metal lIke silhouette.
It the frames are rigid like Fred etc bushings will loosen and crack.
