    Weird frame

This frame showed up in a Lion's Club donation box at my former job. Unfortunately they had a strict policy, and we were not allowed to keep it.

The lower portion was beveled, as if a second lens was intended to go there. There were no markings visible anywhere on the frame.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? What would something like this be used for?Click image for larger version.

I've used these in the distant past. They were designed to be "look-unders" for myopes who didn't need an Rx for reading; Or - if the lenses were in the bottom only, as an alternative to a near vision 1/2 eye. Haven't seen these in eons!

Also used like a Franklin bifocal when you had differing prismatic needs for distance and near.

This is what my original guess was. Can you still find frames like these? What would they be called?

Franel Optical used to have all kinds of weird stuff. They got bought by Hilco years ago. Hilco disco'ed almost all of the novelty frames/items that Franel carried.

Here's a Franel Top Half. The OP's double half eye (guessing on the name) is probably the last one in the known universe.

Well, I'm surprised you haven't sold that one off your board yet Robert!

We sold a ton of them back in the day. I do believe that the frame in question was made by Formost Optical. Anyone save a 1965 Frames catalog.

It's more valuable to me as a conversation piece. I sold my second to last one for bedroom TV watching.
