    Adidas is now Aspex?

I got a "signal" a few months ago from my Silhouette rep (a new one, for adidas and Neubau) that Silhouette is going to "deemphasize" adidas sunwear or ophthalmic (I can't remember which, but one of the two), which I didn't like, because I've recently invested in their big adidas sunglasses tower/special lab etc.

NOW, today, I'm approached by an Aspex rep who says he's carrying adidas! WTH?

    What's going on?

I'm sitting here looking at promotional material. It says "adidas". It has the logo. It shows sun and ophthalmic. It's very blah-looking.

I called Silhouette. The CSR said "we still carry adidas".

I now have yet another adidas rep, apparently, and I've sent him an email for clarification.

    Drk,

Just the "Originals". Italia Independent is owned by Aspex

I started a thread about this last April in the Eyecare Professionals Only forum.

    http://www.visionmonday.com/latest-n...performance-1/

The Performance line is their latest in Ophthalmics. I don't want to speculate in a public forum as to what happens after 2019.

Redhot Jumper What is behind the Adidas name ? No Glasses whatsoever ....................

Adidas has been around for ever....................in shoes

    THE EARLY YEARS

Every great story has a beginning. This one started in a small town in Bavaria, Germany. After first steps in his mother’s wash kitchen, Adi Dassler registered the “Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik” in 1924 and embarked on his mission to provide athletes with the best possible equipment. Gold medals in Amsterdam (1928, Lina Radke) and Berlin (1936, Jesse Owens) were first rewards and milestones – and only the start of our story.

    FOUNDING FATHER

On August 18, 1949, Adi Dassler started over again at the age of 49, registered the “Adi Dassler Adidas “Sportschuhfabrik” and set to work with 47 employees in the small town of Herzogenaurach. On the same day, he registered a shoe that included the registration of the soon-to-become-famous adidas 3-Stripes. From humble beginnings to a global success story – which was accelerated by a miracle …

    A MIRACLE IN BERN

Who would have thought that screw-in-studs on lightweight football boots would help write history? When the German national football team faced the unbeatable Hungarians in the 1954 World Cup final, they won so much more than just a trophy. Their unbelievable victory would be heard around the world for decades to come. And it made Adidas and its founder a household name on football pitches everywhere.

What is behind the (insert licensed name here) name? No glasses whatsoever.

But silhouette makes good glasses, so if they make good glasses and slap a couple stripes on them and call them Adidas, they're probably good glasses too. Who's aspex?

I always wondered if Greg Norman modeled them in the nude.

Go ahead Chris, find that link.

I looked into this awhile back. There is a higher end Adidas line I think its called the performance line and a lower end one. COS has the higher end Aspex has the more affordable ones. Not sure how Adidas was able to license their name to both though

My rep said we're good through 2017. Sports and sun only after that. I'm told that there was separate licensing for the Performance line hence the discrepancy between the published 2019 licensing expiration date. There may be other reasons for that discrepancy though.

Neubau replaces the above, in my area, with a separate representative.

same here. As if it's 2 different types of Adidas.

I never understood the need for licensed brands with their regular ophthalmics. IMO, Silhouette should leave branding to the less sophisticated frame manufacturers, for example, the upcoming Bad Hombre and Nasty Woman collections.

    Silhouette and adidas Sport eyewear

On behalf of Silhouette, we would like to clear up any confusion happening in the thread. Silhouette is focusing on adidas Sport eyewear and adidas Sport essentials eyewear - dedicated to creating and producing premium eyewear for athletes as well as the lifestyle surrounding sport. Please see press release below:

    adidas Sport and Originals eyewear

adidas is proud to announce the extension of its eyewear business. Going forward adidas will continue its successful partnership with Silhouette International for Sport eyewear and add adidas Originals eyewear for the lifestyle consumer with its new partner Italia Independent.

The first license agreement for adidas eyewear was set up with Silhouette International some 22 years ago. Thanks to its intensive research work and expertise going back decades and the desire to seek new solutions time and time again, Silhouette International has established a successful long-term partnership with adidas as a leading brand in Sport eyewear. We are looking forward to continue our collaboration and create sport eyewear branded with the “Badge of Sport”.

adidas Originals strives to be the most influential and connected sportswear brand in street culture. We are very happy to partner up with Italia Independent for Originals eyewear. Our successful relationship is based on the same believes and values: creativity, authenticity and a strong sense for innovation. The collections will be loyal to the DNA of adidas Originals featuring the famous trefoil, so that the Originals eyewear will be perfectly integrated into its entire product range.

adidas is very excited to work with two of the strongest players in the industry. Both companies, Silhouette and Italia Independent represent the adidas eyewear category with joined forces in order to further grow the business and establish the adidas brand in the eyewear world.

    Very nice responsiveness by Silhouette!

Just one more question: what about the ophthalmics?

Let me guess: through Italia, only, at some point going forward?
