    Angry Stupid Sneaky Davis Vision!

Just called Davis for a frame warranty for an 8 year old boy.

Davis: He needs a replacement already? You know that it's only one frame replacement per job now, right?

Me: No, when did it change?

    Davis: July 1st.

Me: Was there any announcement? Or an update on the website?

Davis: No, but if you look on page 70 of the Dr.s' manual, you'll find it.

    Me: Thaaaaaaaaaanks.

Just wanted to share this because NO ONE at my office knew.

I caught that change by accident earlier this year. We have had luck arguing with them that even though we have already done 1 warranty the member shouldn't be penalized for a change that occurred after that warranty. They don't like it but they do it anyway. It has also made it easier to get patients to buy off of the davis board. All of our frames have a 2 year warranty. I was upset at first but now it is working out in our favor.

How much earlier? They said it went into affect July 1. That's a nice hint for getting a 2nd warranty.

Thanks for the post! I had no idea. Unfortunately I get a ton of Davis patients and yet, I do not get a provider manual. Go figure.

Everyday I say that... Every...single...day! Funny thing though... I have Davis through my husband. He left his current company and is now working for ...wait for it...Highmark. So we have Davis again! Ha. At least I just get my glasses through the local lab, but their lab sucks. Yesterday I got an order that had a 3 cyl and axis was off by 5 degrees. The best part was that they included a lensometer reading print out with the incorrect axis highlighted. So they caught it, but sent it to us anyway. What the...?

I want to say, "wow! I can't believe they would do that!" but I can't.

That's not nearly as bad as the pair I had that was around -12.00 ou and came back with just 1 lens! How do you miss that on an inspection???? Someone just wanted to leave for the day... Clearly the people working there were not working in optics yesterday. That's my thoughts on it. Every time I call, I get a different person. How do they not go under? So many mistakes and every time I have to order one lens because it's wrong, they make the pair. What a waste! They always say the lenses won't match. I've worked in a whole sale lab...never ran into that as a prob with very few exceptions. I wouldn't be surprised if they get dumped by Highmark, as the rumors say.

My favorite is when I ask for a rush, especially after I received something wrong once, they ship it off to a lab halfway across the country instead the lab that's 1 1/2 hours away!

If it's like in the past they give a team of 4, pick a number, say 150 jobs to make. They go home when the jobs are done. No requirement they be accurate. Again not sure if this is still true.

My guess is the doc's or higher ups don't have to deal with it. My wife's optical at a hospital takes it as a benefit for employees and families then they catch grief when margins are down. Well DUHHH!!!

Better yet, they ship it to the wrong location... or as they call it "miss-shipped"

No choice... Drs make the decisions. Plus...In our case, we have the highmark building across the street. Thousands of employees. That place is huge and most of them come here. We would loose a lot of patients to vision works (which has 2 locations very close to us) if we dropped Davis. Soooo frustrating!!!

If your Doc's can't get by without taking a low paying insurance for fear of "loosing" patients, it's already too late. There are other ways.

I'm sure they can get by, but they don't get it. They don't hear what an experienced optician has to say on lots of things, not just the Davis issue.

I do get that, been there also. Being packed busy does not equal making more money. Added cost for optical staff, front desk, and billing, waiting for your check that no one can figure out if it's right. I'm glad I am an optician, they taught me business classes.

You just can't make this stuff up. I had an order that was a post op for a patient... it came in with small cracks around the edges of the lenses (poly). Since the Rx was good and the patient was in need of them, I let her wear them until new lenses came in. Ordered lenses only. It took a long time to come in (weeks) and next thing I know, we got a whole new pair... frame and all. Funny thing. It was a safilo frame, not a Davis frame. It had a note saying the order had been lost in mail and they supplied a whole new order. What the heck! How do they not go out of business???
