Might want to hold off on celebrating until he hasn't been back for a few months. You want to get out of the "Actually, I don't see as well out of these..." zone before we all repent.

Blue Jumper CR39 is the best lens next to glass ..............................

CR 39 has been the garbage right here on OptiBoard and everything else has been the wanted material.

There were times when it was all the other way around. When LensCrafters made people sign off when they would not pay extra for Polycarbonate lenses for their kids.

CR39 is the best lens next to glass, it can be sold in any way you want and you can do it in your backroom.

Your treat it against scratching, you can do a UV treatment there as well give it the tint you want or your patients like, and want to pay for. It gives you price range that is inexpensive,or you can add the full list, at basic cost.

You will never be able to compete with on-line opticals on the poly level.

Actually Chris, many of us compete with the on-line companies with polycarbonate and we are able to blow them away. Whether appropriate OC placement, FF Design, or a better polycarbonate lens. Not my favorite material by any stretch and I am thinking that Bill may be correct in his assessment regarding the customers remorse in opting for CR-39. Optically, mineral glass is my personal favorite but my fondness for larger acetate frames combined with a -5.50, my nose doth protest too much.

Of course, if he 'keeps chipping glass', what are the CR39 lenses going to look like after a month?

    From Vision Monday:
Yet, independent optical businesses (three locations or less) remain a vital presence in the market representing 61 percent of all U.S. optical revenues, comprising $18.2 billion, according to GeoMetrics by Jobson Optical Research.
To me it seems that independents cannot only compete with online opticals, but chains as well...

Curious why you'd say that Bill. Because of abbe's? Crown glass and cr39 are almost identical (59/58). If it's from CA's from the minor thickness differential, it would be minimally at best, plus there are a zillion more ff/digital options in cr compared to crown. Granted, cr is much more susceptible to scratching, even with hard coats.

.................so who does the other 39 % ???????????????

The main point is to know the comparison to the year before and the one before that one.

I wish I had 6% of a multi billion Dollar market, as my internet friends, (as you say), are doing.

...................and lets not forget that an optical retailers main customers are the older generations.

..................and the now presently dominating generation is the last one that is not computer savy.

In a short few years from now, the change will be felt physically by the Ma & Pa opticals. (I have kept track of 25
stores that I used to do business with some years back and they all have been taken over by some of the new chains that popped up recently).

Furthermore, your Province of Ontario is now on the verge, or over it, of being deregulated, by the now standard procedures in Canada, that work hard behind the scene.

The main goal of the recent merger of ESSILUX as stated in the other thread, that drew over 11 thousand views on OptiBoard over a 2 week period, the main goal is to expand into South America and expand their internet presence.

They might just by themselves double your 6% over the next 12 months, or at least start doing it.

CR used to be my go-to-choice, until my boss at the retail outlet where I worked pounded into my head (and every patient's head) "If you're in a car accident and the air bag goes off, it'll all end up in your eye and you'll be blinded." Try as I might, I just can't get that thought out of my head and I don't think I've dispensed more than five pairs of CR39 in the past four years.
