  • Polishing and Re-coating Volk SuperQuads and Other Contact Glasses

At the clinic, the antireflective coatings on a couple of Volk SuperQuads have been damaged due immersion in a disinfecting liquid for too long. There are also several Goldmann three-mirrors that have had their front surfaces scratched.

As these lenses cost close to $1000 / piece, I thought it could be prudent to try and repair instead of just buying new ones.

I assume it's just the antireflective coating that has been damaged. It would need to be removed (how?), and new AR coating applied. There are businesses that can AR coat custom orders.

Anyone have any contacts or pointers about this?

    Much appreciated.

    I would:
    a) have a staff meeting about maintaining said lenses.
    b) make an insurance claim.
    c) leave it up to the insurance company's wishes........try having the equipment manufacturer source the resurfacing and/or re-coating of the AR.

This method ensures that the devices will function properly, when completed.
