Lenzcrafter dropping all non-Lux brands very soon ?

Heard a rumor that, after Aug 1, nothing will be avail at Lenzcrafter other than Lux products...anyone have more info on this?

    Very few, location dependent.

Maui Jim, Oakley before the takeover/buyout, Liberty Sport.

Some higher end stores carry Cartier and Chrome Hearts, but it's pretty rare.

    Nothing official available right now........................

However it would make sense, by owning retail stores it would be stupid to support any competition.

They have a huge selection among their own produced products made by companies they own.

Furthermore business is so good these days that a move like that would make sense. Lets see and wait.

I love how everyone says "why would they carry competitor product," and then go on to say how well Ray ban sells in their store, how great big E products are, etc., etc.,

The reason they'd carry competitor products is kind of like the banking meltdown. We are all interconnected in the same industry, and if a key segment fails, we all fail.

There is a delusion amongst the CEOs of the big companies right now that vertical integration is the key to market success because of increased profitability. However, it is a very short sighted goal that will shift the tide back to independent practices that offer a full range of consumer products. It will boost their profits in the short term, but then they'll have to adjust their strategies as they begin to lose market share.

    I disagree, Guy.

When you go to the Apple store, you don't get HP as an option, and they're doing fine.

Yeah, if you go to a department store you get many brands, but that's not the only retail strategy out there.

drk is right...........but forgot to mention that showing a competitors product is wise, because you can show actually what is made better on your own products.

You know those are now mostly Lux brands, except for Liberty Sport and Maui Jim?

How would you explain that car dealers have stuck to and sold the same original brand forever ?

The commercial world is changing fast and you will have to adapt, or end up at the loosing end.

It seems like Pearl Vision has been picking up quite a few brands that are non Lux based. They now have Sillouette's around here and Maui Jim's just to name a few. Maybe Lux will be transfering their non Lux brands over to pearl and just keep lenscrafters strictly Lux based from now on

Lux will have to transfer nothing, Pearl just has to purchase what they want from whoever they are allowed to. Any supplier will lick his fingers to find new customers.

Had no idea, haven't been in the retail/mainstream market for sometime now.

Been trying to keep up with the independents, but it becomes quite difficult.

    Good to know

The same dealer usually has a used car lot, where he will sell the competitions' brands all day.

Maybe it could also be done at opticians, but I doubt that this would work.

Speaking of "cough, cough"....(name drop alert), I was at a beach party at a yacht club (not my people) Sunday. I was wearing my Made In the USA, Parkman zyl/bamboo inlay suns, the guy next to me Maui Jim, and the guy next to him was also wearing Mauis. A real estate developer came on the scene wearing RayBans. Without provocation his wife says, "Guess where big spender Saul bought his RayBans...Target!" He was greeted with howls and fake (mine wasn't fake) scorn, and then someone said, "Why are they selling them there?!?" I said, "Easy, take them off and look at where they are made...China." A little "cough, cough" as we passed my Parkmans around for all to admire. Oh, the name drop? Lebron James was on the yacht next slip over, with JR, who happened to be wearing a shirt.

You guys need to give Johns a break. Criminy, the old boy's almost 85 and half senile. He still talks about how he made Sally Jesse Raphael famous when he put red glasses on her!

Oh yeah, totally, but this is so not my crowd, environment, people, or culture, that I just HAD to drive down snob alley. Truth be told, I do own a sizable boat, which I is a sea going kayak that I bought at a lawn sale for $40 (talked them down from $50, I did!)

Well, since we're dropping names, I did buy a tie for $7 at Burlington Coat Factory (I'll bet it's not even a real factory) that had the big gold metal "Trump" name on the back. Yeah, I only wear Trump now.
