Confused Parallel effect in Reading zone 1.74 S Design

    Help!
I have a problem patient that we have exhausted all our options on. We started the patient in a 1.74 Physio Enhanced but the patient didn't like the width of the reading. After a few other issues with RX and vision fluctuations we dropped back into a Comfort 2 to try and mimic the first pair of PAL's the patient had and liked. He said in the reading zone that everything seemed to look like a parallelogram. We adjusted the glasses nothing helped. When I called our lab they told me to put the patient back in a digital lens, S Design. I was told that he wouldn't have the sensation...he does. Anyone else have this issue? Any advise??

I often only get the "parallelogram" description from first time PAL wearers, as their brain is figuring out the design. Sounds like he's not a first time PAL tho... and he has worn 1.74 before?

'Vision fluctuations' seems like the culprit here.

I'd be interested to see how the Rx changed from his last pair to this one. Did the cyl power creep higher and towards an oblique angle?

If you remade the glasses in the New RX using the original PAL design (Comfort 2 I believe?) and he experiences this it is RX related not design related.

You need to provide that info

Big change in add power? Plus power magnifies. To get some size distortion as your gaze moves down the corridor wouldn't be unusual.

Our help requires a lot more info.

    1) Old vs new rx.

    2) Frame sizes with wrap panto vertex

    3) How long did pts. wear the old pair?

From Opticampus: Courses-- Progressive Lens Design---

About 3/4 down read about "Skew". Is this the effect he's describing?

Also other parts may be very helpful!!!

Skew is a natural occurrence in any change in Add power, there is nothing that can fix that except to remove the add. The eye and brain adapt eventually.

I still remember when we all switch from CRT to flat LCD monitors, they all looked Curved toward me! The Comfort has the widest reading of what you have tried, the S the narrowest, but they will all bend the edges of the reading zone. He will have to adapt everytime his add power increases. Its just physics.
