We are hearing conflicting information on how to tax merchandise. The question is do you tax the full retail before insurance discounts or after?

Thank You! We were thinking the same thing but our software thinks differently, and when our insurance biller called around they recieved such convoluted answers. We don't want to over charge but obviously we don't want to under charge either....gotta pay the man lol

I don't charge based on a retail price. They just get taxed on what they pay.
Think about this: you go to "Dress Barn" and get a dress at clearance marked "50% off". Now, think...what is the sales tax based on? The "sale"!
I don't work in Ohio either but you all want to get this one right so confer with he appropriate tax authority. Non compliance might just find you in the embarrassing position of having Elliot Ness and the Untouchables kicking down your office door, tasing you, cuffing you and hauling you off to the Penitentiary in Youngstown.
