Westborough's Solos will offer U.S. Olympic cycling athletes access to smart eyewear that integrates heads-up display and audio technologies.
The partnership with USA Cycling covers USAC's developmental programs as well as the USA Cycling Teams for the 2016 season, including the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. The streamlined glasses from the brand of Kopin Corporation pair with a smartphone or wearable sensors to provide a heads up image of real-time performance data. The eyewear will be used during training of the U.S. cycling athletes.
"The screen is a big information giver without impairing my vision or being distracting; I can really focus on my ride and training… honestly, it just feels natural," Sarah Hammer, two- time Olympic Silver medalist, 2016 World Champion and 2016 Olympic Team Member, said in a statement.
USA Cycling worked in conjunction with Solos to develop the glasses that will help the athletes go for gold in Rio, according to Andy Sparks, director of Track Cycling Programs at USA Cycling. The eyewear retails for $499.
