Question about Program / Manually entering with Generator (SGX Gerber Coburn)

So working for LC i've always had their Gerber network system to automatically punch in all the data. Now that I'm on my own I'm considering buying a coburn generator but my question is what exactly will i need to do to get this operational?

If i have to calculate any additional information could someone point me in the right direction on where I could find those equations? Or if there is a cheap program that does just this, i don't need inventory management and all the other bells and whistles.

Although manual entry is possible, I highly recommend you purchase an LMS system (ie Innovations) The SGX requires not only curve information but your LMS will send over required lens specs such as lens thickness both center and edge, true front and back curve, diameter, blocking info to set tool height and material type to set cutting settings @ gen and index for prism grinding. If you set manual entry incorrect, the cutter may crash into lens or cut into block.

I started my career before computers doing all calculations by hand....so these same equations can be complex and are used by modern day LMS systems.

Steven....Both Zeiss...(Sola -Zeiss) and Vision Ease gave away basic programs many years ago.

Sola's product was called Sola Calc. Not sure what Vision Ease' product was called.

Sola Calc gave you basic calculations....enough to "get you started"...

Call Sola...and learn if they have spare copies.

Steve wrote a basic tool a while back that would still be relevent and useful today, I just tried it on a windows 10 machine and the program boots and does what's necessary.

I wrote a small web based app a few years back that needs some TLC, but still susefull, there was a lab in China using it to some degree of success, manual entry but it calcs.

I tried to run it on windows 10, it said it wasn't compatible on my machine. Did you have to run it with a specific compatibility pack?

I have Visual Studio installed since I develop it's possible that I have additional packs installed that allow it to run.

You can purchase the basic innovations hardware and software for about 4 grand, plug and play. It takes a lot of the guess work out of doing your own calculations as well as cribbing your lenses down to the exact ED. We tried to do it manually when our system was down. It's doable but not efficient
