awesome little video. Hey Bill, didn't know you had this thread on Optiboard. We just started using your lab recently and I had a couple of questions I haven't been able to get answered. I know you're a busy man, but do you have a moment soon to chat?
Always happy to help!
Really informative and enjoyable video! I wish there were more videos about glass lenses. I've tried to look more into them (an interest of mine because we don't work with them) and can't find much about molding/ processing. The glass bifocals baffle me
Have I told you today how much I hate poly?
Part of the problem with doing a video of the actual processing is that we have to fake it. When we cut, there's coolant everywhere so all you usually see is water going everywhere. To get a decent video would require turning off the coolant, changing the job data so the lens gets close but doesn't actually touch the cutting wheel, and usually tripping out safety doors so we can get a camera at the right angle. Polishing is even worse.
Believe me, I've tried it a few times, and haven't gotten and results that I'm satisfied with.
This is true. I've been contemplating doing some videography with a GoPro or something similar. I don't think I'll go so far as to make my way into the machinery. Wanting to share my 'daily grinding' with those interested isn't worth the damage or potential damage from getting past those guard screens! Either way, projects like this are fun to have and can be super rewarding when production is successful!
