    Crier Resume and Cover letter

Hi there, I'm in the process of writing a resume and cover letter and everyone I ask has a different opinion, some find it good, others laugh about. Does anybody here have a sample resume and cover letter so I can see how wrong or right I am ???

Thanks for your help, you all are a great bunch of people and I enjoy coming back to see what's new !!!

Some companies like you to have one when applying for employment and others dont seem to care. Does'nt do any harm to have one prepared covering your education, skills etc. Covering letter is going to vary for each position you apply for. Try writing a basic one saving on your PC then ammending for each application made.

As one who sees many resumes and cover letters, let me give you the things that make me really take notice:

    1. The cover letter is made out with my name or the name of the company, not a generic letter for all.
    2. When you e-mail resumes copy and paste it in the e-mail as well as attaching it. I can't tell you how many I can't open! And how many use e-mail accounts such as hotmail and my replies get returned-the replies telling them I can't open it.

Also, there is a great book for employers and job seekers which lists out the resume types as well as the purpose they are used for. I recommend it to employers and applicants as well:

Resumes are useful but they'll NEVER GET READ unless you have a DYNAMITE, PERSONALIZED ONE PAGE cover letter.

Cover letters give you the opportunity to explain who you are and why you're the best fit for the position.

Take the time to research the company you're applying to (OK, to whom you are replying) and INDIVIDUALIZE your response. MAKE SURE YOUR SPELLING AND GRAMMAR IS CORRECT AND APPROPRIATE TO THE POSITION!

Be succinct, thorough and know what you want to accomplish before you start.

    Good luck!

Jim's response made me think of one other thing. If you are e-mailing your resume watch your e-mail identity. I have in the past gotten resumes from some e-mail addresses that made me wonder about the applicant. What with yahoo and the other free sites it isn't hard to get a businesslink address.
